Ray Lewis Says Joe Flacco Lacks 'Passion For The Game'

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Ray Lewis was recently asked whether or not he believes the Ravens could win over the Cowboys in the upcoming Sunday match up and he said, "If I'm picking anybody, I'm picking Baltimore in this game."

However, Lewis also said that he has some doubts about the Ravens' current offensive line and in turn, Joe Flacco's leadership was called into question.

Lewis commented on Flacco's passion, or lack thereof, saying, "There's something called talent and you see it a dime a dozen. Gifted? Absolutely. Passionate about what he do? I've never seen that," Lewis told Fox Sports 1 on Thursday.

"He's always isolating himself to go sit on the bench, never talking to anyone, big play, bad play," said Lewis.

Lewis began comparing Flacco's lack of "fire" to players like Steve Smith and Mike Wallace who are much more animated on the field.

"It's different personalities now that can make him rally...Maybe it's because his personality just isn't that personality. He's not a rah-rah guy. He won't say much. But, in the game of football, there has to be some burning fire behind you," said Lewis.

The comments from Lewis have become the talk of the city. On Friday, Head Coach John Harbaugh was asked to weigh in.

"No two people are the same, no two people react the same way, express themselves the same way, everybody does it a little differently," said Harbaugh.

Flacco himself spoke with the media Friday, and says the questions surrounding his personality, are nothing new.

"It's a little surprisng coming from Ray, but it's been something I've dealt with back before high school. When things are going good, it's questioned as if it's a good thing and when things aren't going as well as you might not like them to be, it's always a question of whether my personality fits what an NFL quarterback should be," said Flacco.

A few Ravens weighed in on Lewis' comments, and they're sticking up for their quarterback.

"It's odd to hear Lewis saying that. Didn't Joe win you a Super Bowl," said Eric Weddle.

Steve Smith added "You don't play the game for this long and be able to accomplish some of the things Joe has without having a drive or passion for the game."

Flacco and Lewis were teammates for five seasons from 2008-2012.
