Pitching Coach Roger McDowell 'Really Happy' To Be With The Orioles

Earlier today the Baltimore Orioles named Roger McDowell as the new Major League pitching coach and Alan Mills as Major League bullpen coach. McDowell spent the past 11 seasons as the Major League pitching coach with the Atlanta Braves.

McDowell and Mills were teammates on the 1996 Orioles club that earned an American League Wild Card berth in the postseason and advanced to the American League Championship Series.

"I'm really fortunate, really happy and very thankful," said McDowell about being back with the Orioles.

Jeremy asked McDowell if there are any philosophies of his own that he'll be bringing to the team. McDowell mentioned that the former Orioles pitching coach Dave Wallace is the main reason he is where he is today and he aims to emulate his teachings. Dave Wallace began his major league coaching career in 1995 with the Los Angeles Dodgers crossing paths with McDowell.

McDowell said, "Dave Wallace is the person who was most instrumental in me becoming a pitching coach. Back when he was the GM of the Dodgers, I was Doing community Relations work and would see Dave and...not only do I owe a lot to him from the standpoint of getting me started, but I developed a great admiration for him."

McDowell also talked about coming transitioning from the National League to the American League.

He says, "I'll put in a lot of work, trying to help whatever way I can for the pitchers." McDowell believes it will be a seamless transition and a great fit to be back with the Orioles.
