Horse Rescued From Being Neck-Deep In Mud

WHITE HALL, Md. (WJZ) --  There's a lot to be thankful for at Wren's Nest Farm, as 31-year-old horse Agenda is safe, after being trapped to his neck in a swamp.
"Mud is a sticky situation," said Corey Watkins.
"It was almost slow motion. I tried to make the best of everything and lighten the situation by telling jokes," said Agenda's owner, Meghan Lynn.
Lynn found Agenda stuck in the muddy swamp. Sky-Eye Chopper 13 watched from above as Harford County rescuers and Norrisville Volunteer firefighters dug through thick mud in dropping temperatures.
"At one point, the rescuers were up to their waist in mud. So, when we stood on the mud we sank down up to our waist," said Daniel Lemmon, Harford County Technical Rescue.
Agenda's head is barely above the mud as first responders work away.
It took nearly 20 people -- along with firefighters, rescue team, and a vet -- a neighbor used a bulldozer to drain the swamp.
"We had the vet and the farmhands petting and just talking to the horse telling him what's going on and trying to keep him calm," said Watkins.
It took more than an hour, but crews got Agenda back on solid ground.
His caretaker says he's doing well.
"He's sore, he's definitely sore, he's not as lively as he usually is," said Lynn. But Agenda was able to nod his head in agreement, and approval. He's a horse with lots of humans to thank.
Agenda was surprisingly totally unharmed in all of this, he's eating well and is expected to be okay.
Firefighters used specialized straps to free Agenda. They were bought with help from a grant and a local businessman 8 years ago.
