Man Killed In Fourth Fatal House Fire In Under A Week

BALTIMORE (WJZ) - The number of fire related deaths in the city rises again after a house fire kills a 50 year old man in Northwest Baltimore on Monday.

The blaze broke out in the 5000 block of Chalgrove Avenue around 4:15 Monday afternoon.

Two neighbors ran toward the house to help and found an elderly woman on the back porch. She told them her son was still trapped inside.

After putting out the fire, crews searched the home and found the body of a 50-year old man in the basement.

This is the sixth fire related death in the city in less than a week. Over the weekend, three separate hours fires killed five people including four children.

With the number of fires in this month alone, fire officials are asking people to be aware of dry Christmas trees, frayed lights and overloaded sockets, which are common fire hazards this time of year.

The medical examiner is now determining the man's official cause of death. Meanwhile his mother was taken to the hospital with minor smoke inhalation.

The cause of this fire is unknown. However, investigators have released the cause of those three other fires that killed five people.

9 month old Ezekial Ramires and his 3 year old brother Nigel died in a fire last Wednesday on North Clinton street. The cause was determined to be children playing with matches.

The fire Saturday morning on Dorton court that took the lives of 10 year old Kamarl Ferrell and 1 year old Tylynn McDuffie was caused by unattended food on the stove.

And a fire Saturday night on Dennison street that killed a 90 year old woman was caused by overheated electrical cords under the carpet.
