Live Stream Of Giraffe In Labor At NY Zoo Proves Extremely Popular

HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. (WJZ/AP) — More than a million people have viewed a YouTube live stream of a pregnant giraffe awaiting the birth of a baby at an upstate New York animal park.

Jordan Patch, owner of the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York, says the mother, called April, could give birth to her fourth calf at any time.

The daddy, Oliver, can be seen in the next pen over.

A YouTube webcam has been set up since Feb. 22 so people can watch the action. Giraffes can be in labor anywhere from hours to a full day.

April has become a long-legged, spotted celebrity at the interactive, educational park 130 miles northwest of New York City, which features hundreds of animals — from wolves and zebras to pot-bellied pigs.

Once the newborn appears, the park will hold an online naming competition.

Patch says YouTube removed the feed early Feb. 23 after someone reported it was explicit and contained nudity, but it has since been restored.

In a video posted on the zoo's Facebook page, Patch blamed "a handful of extremists and animal rights activists" for interrupting the stream from the "giraffe cam."
