Investigation Launched After Dog Found Dead In Liberty Reservoir

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Humane Society of Carroll County is investigating after a dog was found dead in the Liberty Reservoir Tuesday.

They say the dog's body was tethered to a weighted object, though it's unclear if the dog was alive when it went into the water.

Animal Control isn't ruling out the possibility that the dog became entangled and wasn't actually purposely tied down and drowned.

"To find a deceased animal anywhere in this type of business would not be unusual. The unusual circumstances here are the dog was found in a body of water," says Edward Smith of animal control.

The dog has not been identified, and does not fit the description of any missing dogs in Baltimore County or Carroll County.

Animal Control performed a necropsy to determine the cause of death, and will likely have more information within the week.

The Humane Society is offering a $500 reward for information leading to any arrest.
