Baltimore Medical Providers On Alert After Clinic Raid

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore health officials have warned a network of medical providers of a potential increase in drug overdoses and withdrawals after law enforcement raided a pain management clinic.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and local authorities raided the Westside Medical Group offices of Dr. Kofi Shaw-Taylor on Tuesday.

Raquel Coombs, a spokeswoman for Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, says 67-year-old Shaw-Taylor was charged with Medicaid fraud. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.

Baltimore City Health Commissioner Leana Wen wouldn't comment on the specific case but says front-line providers must be alerted to the possibility of patients in withdrawal and overdose.

Baltimore Police spokesman T.J. Smith says officers equipped with overdose reversal drug Narcan are on patrol.
