Best Ways To Celebrate Cinco de Mayo In Baltimore

By Joel Furches

Cinco De Mayo is a distinctly Mexican holiday which has been co-opted by an American culture which loves eating Mexican food and drinking margaritas and tequila. There are a number of places in the Baltimore area which celebrate this holiday - going all out on food and drinks to bring a little Central American fun to the land north of the border. If you like any or all things Mexican, take some time to look out for some of the following places and events - and enjoy your May 5 in style.

Barcocina
1629 Thames St.
Baltimore, MD 21231
(410) 563-8800

This Fell's Point bar and restaurant takes much loved favorites from a Mexican menu and gives them an American twist. The interior of the building has an industrial chic feel to it, and the fun spills out onto the bar's patio which overlooks the waterfront. As a Mexican/American venue, Barcocina is proud to take part in the May 5th holiday of Mexican origins. Barcocina will be offering food and drink specials this Cinco De Mayo, along with live music for the entertainment of patrons. Consider spending your May 5th at the place that has it all.

Mt. Washington Tavern
5700 Newbury St.
Baltimore, MD 21209
(410) 367-6903
www.mtwashingtontavern.com

The Mt. Washington Tavern gives you plenty of elbow room as you sit and dine on light American fair or take advantage of its raw bar. The theme of the restaurant is Chesapeake Bay - not Mexico. Nevertheless, Mt. Washington has a history of throwing a party on Cinco De Mayo. To that end, this May 5th expect the Tavern to serve up some Mexican food and fun. Swing in on this holiday and enjoy the specials on margaritas that the restaurant will be serving, along with other fun festivities.

Bar Clavel
225 W. 23rd St.
Baltimore, MD 21211
(443) 900-8983
www.barclavel.com

Bar Clavel comes off as a Mexican bar and restaurant if one removes the more colorful decorations that one typically associates with those venues. In a simple white room with hanging lights, patrons may order elevated cuisine and Mexican-inspired drinks. Its spare interior somehow compliments the relatively small restaurant. Like most Mexican restaurants, Bar Clavel celebrates Cinco de Mayo with drink and food specials that change up each year. If you're looking for an elevated dining and drinking excursion this May 5th, head over to Clavel. You won't be disappointed.
