Baltimore Mayor Names Federal Judge As City's New Solicitor

BALTIMORE (AP) — The mayor of Baltimore has hired federal Judge Andre M. Davis to be the city's top lawyer.

News outlets report Mayor Catherine Pugh announced Wednesday that the senior judge on the Fourth Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals will become Baltimore's city solicitor effective Sept. 1. Acting Solicitor David Ralph will continue as deputy.

Davis said in a statement that Baltimore is at a historic intersection and he hopes to contribute to the revitalization of the city.

Davis, who's 68, was appointed to the federal bench by President Bill Clinton in 1995 and to the appeals court by President Barack Obama in 2009. He was born in Baltimore and earned his law degree at the University of Maryland.
