BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Katherine Berman, wife of legendary ESPN broadcaster Chris Berman, died Tuesday afternoon in a two-car accident in Connecticut.

According to local reports, Berman, who was 67, rear-ended another car, left the road and overturned in a small body of water.

Police on the scene indicated that Edward Bertulis, who was 87, was also involved in the accident. Bertulis’s car struck a utility pole; Bertulis died at nearby Waterbury Hospital.

“This is a devastating tragedy and difficult to comprehend,” ESPN president John Skipper said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris, Meredith, Doug and the entire family.”

Baltimore Ravens Coach John Harbaugh also released a statement.

Katherine and Chris Berman were married 33 years ago, shortly after Berman joined ESPN.
