Police Arrest Johns Hopkins Bomb Threat Suspect, Acted On Dare

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Baltimore police have arrested a suspect in the Johns Hopkins University bomb scare investigation.

Officers arrested 19-year-old Advaith Baimeedi in the 3300 block of Saint Paul Street for making a bomb threat and other charges.

Officers responded to the 3400 block of North Charles Street Thursday around 7 a.m. for a reported bomb threat.

Officers learned that a male had called in multiple bomb threats and said he had placed several bombs around the University.

Bomb squad detectives searched the campus and found no explosives or suspicious devices.

The cell phone that was used to call in the bomb threats was reportedly stolen from another student earlier in the day.

The student said she went to the bathroom while in the library and her phone was gone when she returned.

Baltimore Police and campus police observed Baimeedi stealing the girl's phone on surveillance video.

Detectives were able find the phone in bushes near the Baltimore Museum of Art using an app on the phone.

Police learned that Baimeedi committed the act on a "dare."

There were never any bombs, bomb making devices, or anything related to an actual physical threat beyond the threat phoned in by the suspect.

Baimeedi was arrested and transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility where he has been charged with making a bomb threat, theft, false statement, threat of mass violence, arson and phone misuse.
