In Game Against Md. Farm Team, Tebow Has 1st RBIs In Nearly A Month

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Tim Tebow drove in his first runs in nearly a month with two RBIs in the Columbia Fireflies' road-win against the Delmarva (Maryland) Shorebirds.

The former NFL quarterback has 11 RBIs on the season with the New York Mets Single A affiliate, but also has struck out 31 times. Weather wreaked havoc during the Fireflies road trip this week with games cancelled or postponed at Delmarva and at the Lakewood (New Jersey) BlueClaws.

Still, Columbia went 4-0 this with Tebow playing in three of the contests.

HIGHLIGHTS: Tebow had his first RBIs since April 16, ending an 18-game drought as he drove in two runs in a 7-1 victory at Delmarva on Wednesday night.

AT THE PLATE: Tebow was 3 of 12 at the plate this week. He had two RBIs and five strikeouts in three games.

ON THE SEASON: Tebow is hitting .243 (25 of 103) with 11 RBIs and 31 strikeouts.

IN THE FIELD: Tebow made his second error of the season in left field in Sunday's win over Lakewood.

HEDGING HIS BETS?: Last Monday, ESPN announced it had signed Tebow to a multiyear deal to continue as a college football analyst for the SEC Network and other ESPN programs. ESPN said Tebow's duties would not conflict with his pursuit of a pro baseball career.

LEAVING SOON? With Tebow and the Fireflies playing in Lakewood, New Jersey — the closest South Atlantic League stop to Columbia's parent organization — the buzz was the Mets were pondering when to move Tebow up the minor-league ladder. Tebow and the Fireflies say there's no timetable for how long the former Heisman Trophy winner will remain with the team. Tebow has gotten hits in 11 of his past 17 games. Tebow also signed with ESPN to continue his duties as a college football analyst for the SEC Network among other ESPN shows.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Fireflies finish their road trip at Lakewood (New Jersey) with a doubleheader on Monday and a game Tuesday. They return home Thursday to start a four-game series with the West Virginia Power.
