Baltimore PD Names New 'Public Enemy #1'

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Baltimore Police Department has identified a new "Public Enemy #1" wanted in connection with a murder.

Police say 18-year-old Cortez Wall is wanted for the murder of Channon Simpkins earlier this month. This murder was retaliation in a drug dispute, according to police.

Cortez has a long history of violence.

"This young man, 18 years old, is a veteran in the criminal justice system already and he is possibly a veteran killer, and we need him off the street and we need the public's help," said Baltimore PD spokesman T.J. Smith. "Each time, as the commissioner would say, we hang the jersey of 'Public Enemy #1' on an individual, we get tips from the community.

And those tips produce results.

"Each and every time we've done this, that person has been taken into custody within a matter of days," Smith said.

police ask anyone with information about cortez wall to contact them.

Baltimore PD held a press conference Wednesday afternoon to announce Wall as "Public Enemy #1". Police also believe he is wanted in other acts of violence.

Police name "Public Enemy #1" when suspects do "unthinkable, unspeakable" things and have "reckless disregard for safety and life," according to Smith.

Police ask anyone with information about Wall to contact them.
