Jeremy Conn: Will We Ever See The Old Tillman?

It's been rough this year watching these guys pitch. Bundy has been the bright spot, but if you are going to rely on your number one pitcher being a young guy pitching his first full season as a starter, then you are going to be in trouble in the long run. I've talked about it, I think there is some regression coming to Bundy once it warms up at Camden Yards.  He's not striking out a ton of guys, but so far so good.

Who can you trust besides Bundy? Wade Miley has an ERA under 3, but his WHIP is almost at 1.50 a game. You cant put that many runners on base and expect to have continued success. Also with the fact the Gausman, Tillman, Jimenez and Miley cant seem to pitch past the fifth inning, it's wearing out our bullpen.

Gausman is the most troubling.

He is a guy that we thought would take a big step forward and instead he has been horrendous.  After watching how good he was down the stretch last year, many people thought he would end up being our number 1 starter.  Not the case as he has almost doubled his ERA from last year and his WHIP makes Wade Miley look like Clayton Kershaw. Gausman has 36 strikeouts and 35 earned runs.

How long do you wait on Tillman to get back to his old form? He looked awful in the first two innings yesterday and then settled down to get through the fifth.  Will we ever see the old Tillman?  He was never an ace, but he has always been a solid starter for the Orioles.  He was the closest thing they had to a stopper.  They are on a 3 game losing streak and going to face the best team in baseball now.

Lastly Ubaldo has to go! You cant keep hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. He has had too many terrible starts in a row.  You can't keep putting him out there every fifth day.  He's destroying the bullpen and on numerous occasions his had rather large leads, just to give it back.
