Novel Adaptation "Jazz" Debuts At Baltimore Center Stage

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- The play Jazz is set to make its world premiere at the Baltimore Center Stage.

It's a dramatic piece of work with complex characters woven together with music.

Based on the novel by Toni Morrison, the play explores a complicated love story set during the Harlem Renaissance.

Exploring the world of jazz, the play uses music to piece together a messy love triangle with characters struggling to confront their dreams and passions.

"Kind of transported to the world of 1920's Harlem, in seeing all the dancing and clothes, and the talking and the slang and what not," said cast member Warner Miller.

"Celebrates the history of African Americans, it celebrates the music and how much music is a part of our history and dancing," said cast member Jasmine Batchelor.

"Hopefully do it as they're walking out of the theater, do some Charleston as they are walking to their car," Miller said.

The show opens Friday runs through June 25 and they have both matinee and evening performances.
