Ocean City: A Getaway You Can Enjoy On A Budget

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- A trip to the Eastern Shore can be affordable if you plan it out right and take advantage of the free activities all summer long.

With schools in Maryland beginning after Labor Day, it means an extension of summer fun in Ocean City.

"It is a time to just get away from it all, from all the problems and issues, a nice time to relax," Hank Rose says.

"We know people save a lot of money to come to Ocean City in the summertime, we want that to be worth their while so providing that with free events throughout the summer season is really important to us," says Ocean City communications manager Jessica Waters.

From the new playground on the beach, to the 100 Nights of Lights to dazzle beach goers until Labor Day.

"Definitely awesome for him to have it here to play with," John Boden says.

"We are going to shower the boardwalk and beach with lights, and music, 9 o'clock every 20 minutes or so, every night in the summer to create that fun atmosphere, that what Ocean City is about fun," says Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan.

So grab your sunscreen, friends and loved ones and dive into Ocean City without breaking the bank.

"There's just a ton of stuff to do, and of course we have our signature events in the summer like OC Air Show, our fourth of July celebration, and of course the Big White Marlin open in August," Water says.

Vacationers young and old have plenty of choices.

"Its fun I been here before," Sam Boden says.
