Police Ramp Up Response Into Holiday Weekend Following Triple Shooting

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Police are responding in droves leading up to the holiday weekend, as three people were shot Friday morning in south Baltimore.

City police say two teens and an adult were shot in the 800 block of Gretna Court in Curtis Bay Friday.

A total of 12 people have been shot in Baltimore in just hours, and police say they will now have additional deployments.

Crime scene tape, evidence markers scattered and detectives canvassing the area follow the aftermath of a triple shooting that rattled a community.

"Senseless violence, something that's frustrating, something that we're dealing with," says Detective Nikki Monroe with Baltimore Police.

Police say two men emerged from a back alley while the three victims were playing a dice game right on a nearby step.

Police say the victims are 16, 17, and 23-years-old. The 23-year-old had illegal narcotics in his possession at the time of the shooting and will face criminal charges.

Police are searching for suspects and a motive.

"Retaliation is always something we will look into," says Det. Monroe.

A total of 12 peoople were shot in the past 24 hours in Baltimore City, nine alone on Thursday.

The gunfire is wreaking havoc on one neighborhood after the other. With the holiday weekend police say additional deployments are in place.

The victims were transported to area hospitals and are expected to survive.
