Police Arrest 2 Teens Accused Of Shooting At Cars

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Two teens are now behind bars after police say they fired shots at multiple passing vehicles back in August.

18-year-old Tyler James Getz and 17-year-old Timothy Allen Staples have both been charged with multiple counts of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and malicious destruction of property.

The two are accused of shooting out windows and nearly hitting drivers and passengers. Bullets that nearly took the lives of innocent drivers.

Police say the teens shot at least five cars, and it was tips from the community that led them to the pair.

"This is a far more serious incident then kids just being kids," said Jennifer Peach, with the Baltimore County Police Department.

The chaos unfolded back on August 24, along Phoenix Rd., near York Rd. in Sparks.

One vehicle after the other was hit as they were passing by.

"The fact that neither one of us were hit, and it went into the rear window and not the front," said Tami Principio, who was shot at.

Even an unmarked patrol car was among the vehicles that were shot at.

"In at least two of these vehicles, they hit the drivers side door," Peach said. "On the unmarked patrol car, that bullet hit the drivers side door, towards where the officer's knee or leg was."

Police say the two teens were hunkered down in a nearby field, but detectives have yet to say what type of gun they're accused of firing.

It was tips that led investigators to Getz, who then pointed them to Staples.

The duo has now been indicted by a grand jury.

"It's just scary all the way around," Principio said.

An afternoon of turmoil that investigators believe could have easily turned deadly.

Both teens are being charged as adults, and have been released from jail on $10,000 bond.
