2 Children Killed, Woman Injured In Baltimore House Fire

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Two children have been killed and a woman has been injured in a house fire in West Baltimore.

The Baltimore City Fire Department responded to a three-story home in the 1100 block of N. Mount Street around 7:30 p.m. Friday for a report of a fire. Flames were visible from the second floor of the home in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood.

Fire officials say five people were living in the home, but only three were inside at the time.

The children, a boy and girl ages one and two, were in cardiac arrest while being taken to a local hospital. The woman, who had non-life threatening injuries, was also transported to a hospital. Authorities are still working to clarify if the victims were related.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Baltimore City Mayor Catherine Pugh and acting Baltimore City Police Commissioner Darryl DeSousa were on scene talking to fire officials.

"This is definitely not the story that we want to tell. We are all about making sure that lives are saved, this is just unfortunate and our heart goes out to the family," said Blair Skinner, Baltimore City Fire spokesperson.

Shock is now gripping those learning of the tragedy.

"Oh my God! Are you serious?" one woman said.
