Areal Flood Warnings In Effect As Heavy Rain Pummels Region

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- An Areal Flood Warning is in effect for much of Maryland as heavy rain will continue to cover the region for the weekend.

A slow-moving front will lead to multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall. WJZ's Meg McNamara says rain will continue through this evening.

Widespread rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2 inches are likely, with localized amounts up to 3 inches possible.

The National Weather Service says heavy rain may lead to flooding of streams and some rivers and high water may also develop in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Fog moved through the Baltimore area Saturday night.

The NWS issued a "Special Weather Statement" as fog became denser overnight:

"Areas of fog have developed this evening, with patches of dense fog across our area. Fog may become locally dense overnight, with visibilities falling to one mile or less in many spots. If travelling overnight, watch out for reduced visibilities and exercise caution."
