Massive Fire Engulfs Multiple Rowhomes In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A fierce fire ripped through at least four rowhomes in East Baltimore on Thursday as thick, black smoke could be seen from several miles away.

At least 60 firefighters responded to attack the aggressive fire that broke out near McElderry Street and North Lakewood Avenue just after 4 p.m.

Officials say many residents have likely been displaced.

Some people were home at the time, but there were no reported injuries.

"When we arrived on the scene, there were multiple dwellings with heavy fire and smoke showing from the two-story middle home of the dwelling. No injuries were reported," Baltimore City Fire spokesperson Blair Skinner said. "We had to strike out a second alarm due to the intensity of the fire, and again there were multiple dwellings involved."

The cause is under investigation.
