Police: Man Dies After Lighting Himself On Fire Near White House In DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WJZ) -- A man lit himself on fire near the White House in Washington D.C. Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Secret Service, the man, identified as Arnav Gupta, lit himself on fire on the Ellipse near 15th and Constitution Avenue around 12:10 p.m.

Secret Service, National Park Service and U.S. Park Police responded at 12:25 p.m. to the National Mall.

Gupta was extinguished and taken to a local hospital for treatment. He died as a result of his injuries later that evening.

The Elllipse is located south of the White House fence and north of Constitution Avenue and the National Mall.

The U.S. Park Police Criminal Investigation Division is still investigating.
