Teagarden discusses the difficulty of

getting into a rhythm with limited playing time.  He also gets into Chris Tillman’s outing and helping a pitcher through a ballgame who doesn’t have their best stuff.

The guys also discuss

the Fullback position in the NFL as well as Vonta Leech’s departure from the team.  Also, Femi talks about what  leadership brings to an NFL organization.  They even get into the Orioles a little bit.

Fans will forget some of the cooler things that happened in the game. Mike Miller losing his shoe and then hitting a three pointer. Lebron James huge block on Tim Duncan late was a pivital moment. Kawhi Leonard absolutely posterizing Mike Miller in the first half. All in all, I am looking forward to seeing game 7 and how it unfolds. This has been one of the championship series i have watched, and there is nothing better than a game 7.

Scott asks LaQuan for his thoughts about receiving his Superbowl Ring.  The former Maryland Terrapin talks about his trip to the White House and meeting President Obama.  The guys also discuss the team competition at wide-out and the changes that have come along with a full offseason under Jim Caldwell.

They also get into the uprising of the young Quarterbacks in the league along with the release of Vonta Leach.

Coming up tonight the Orioles will face Ryan Dempster who has been pretty good as of late. The Orioles will throw Chris Tillman tonight against Dempster. Tillman has been our best pitcher so far, especially on the road. On Saturday the Orioles will send good ole Sweaty Freddy to the mound. Freddy Garcia is either Hit or Miss, but the good news is that his facing John Lackey. It could be free baseball night at the yard. On Sunday, Miguel Gonzalez will face Jon Lester, and the Orioles have had their troubles with Lester in the past, but I believe they have hit him better the past two years. Getting all 4 games is a lot to ask for, so ill settle for 3 out of 4.

I’d like to think it was an early Father’s Day gift for us couch potatoes. It was a night of sports drama and extreme channel changing at my house. Click, return, click, repeat, again and again with such precision. Round 1 of the US Open was played until the edge of night. Tiger was among those still firing at the famed wicker baskets at Merion when darkness forced the golfers to mark their balls a call it a day. Click!

Over on channel 776 an afternoon baseball game in Oakland caught my interest. The Yankees and A’s afternoon game turned into a late night marathon. Click! On channel 845 the Orioles and Red Sox were starting a must see TV game. Two of the top teams in the East, the opener of a 4-game series. How would the rookie Kevin Gausman fare against those big, bad Boston bats?

Return, click, click, In the middle of all this on channel 210 LeBron and the Heat trying to get off the deck, game 4 of the NBA championship series. Could the Spurs deliver a crushing blow and take a 3-1 lead, wouldn’t miss that. Return!

US Open, O’s-Sox, Yankees-A’s, LeBron-Duncan. Split screen, click, return, click. With the Open closed the focus was channel 845, click. An early Orioles lead but hold on, the Yankees are in the 16th inning, 17th, 18th. Click, click, return, click, click. After 5 hours and 35 minutes a broken bat base hit by Nate Freiman beat Mariano Rivera and the Yankees. The A’s 11th straight win at home and 21st win in their last 26 games. The Yankees lose, The Yankees lose!!!! Click.

Back at Camden Yards another marathon. The Red Sox have tied the game at 4, extra innings for the O’s. Click. In San Antonio the Heat’s big 3 look like a big 3, but the Spurs are trading baskets with Miami and we’re tied at the half. Click. The Orioles bullpen is sensational, from the 8th through the 13th inning they pitch 6 innings of no-hit ball. Pitching change, click! Dwayne Wade’s knee must be feeling better. Wade looks like Wade tonight. Return!

The Deputy did it!! 4 hours and 35 minutes after the first pitch Chris Davis duck-snorts one into short left field for a walk-off winner. O’s win 5-4 in 13 innings. Davis leads the league in homers and shaving cream pies to the face. The 2nd place Orioles have won 3 of 4 from Boston this year. Beautiful, return!!

The Heat own the 4th quarter, the championship series is tied at 2 games each. It’s now a best of 3 series with 2 of the 3 in Miami. No west coast baseball games tonight? Damn! Have to watch the US Open I DVR’d, and SportsCenter I may have missed something. Click, return, click, click. Happy Fathers Day.

After game 1 Jalen Rose was touting Tony Parker as the 3rd best player in the league behind KD and Lebron. I didn’t hear anyone championing him after he put up 13 points and only 5 assists in game 2. I get so frustrated listening to members of the media and even former players say asinine things and no one calls them out on it.

As far as game 3 goes, I believe the Heat will win this game on the road to take a 2-1 series lead. At the beginning of the Series I said Heat in 7 games. If Chris Bosh can keep knocking down perimeter shots and stretching the floor, then everything will fall into place. Popovich is the best close in the league so he will have some adjustments ready for Miami tonight, But I still like Lebron James to take over and lead his team to victory.

They’ve done it with ordinary pitching, terrific defense and booming bats. In their last 16 games the team ERA is a hefty 4.96 but the bats have bailed out the pitching scoring nearly 5 and a half runs a game batting .303 during this stretch. Jason Hammel who gets the ball tonight is the best example of how the Orioles are going. Hammel’s ERA is an ugly 5.43 but the Orioles have scored a ton of runs for him and his record looks good at 7-3.

The Rays bats were on fire the last time these teams met in Baltimore. Tampa Bay scored 25 runs in their 3 game sweep of the Orioles. It’ll be up to Hammel, Kevin Gausman and Chris Tillman to limit the damage this weekend at The Trop. Joe Madden’s pitchers will have their own challenge, after a 4 for 4 game Thursday in Houston JJ Hardy is 11 for his last 19. Chris Davis has 7 homers in his last 15 games and The Deputy is hitting at a .475 clip during this stretch. Adam Jones, Manny Machado, Nick Markakis can all make life miserable for pitchers.

The Orioles and Rays are part of a 4-team AL East pack all bunched within 4 games in the standings. I suspect these two teams will be around when the pennant race comes down the stretch in September. Tampa Bay leads the season series with the Orioles 5-4. Pennant races are decided in September but June games can decide if you’ll be in the race.

Josh Martin of Bleacher Report joins The Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to break down the NBA Finals between the Heat and the Spurs. Josh discusses the mismatches that you will mostly likely see in the series, for both teams. With the Heat taking their last series to seven games, and the Spurs sweeping, Josh talks about how this could be a huge advantage for the aging Spurs. Martin finishes by giving his predictions and how he sees this series playing out.

The guys also discuss the difference between playing in Baltimore and New York since Dickerson was a Yankee just a year ago. 

They get into his walk off 3-run home run against the Tigers last weekend.  Chris gives some insight as far making adjustments coming off the bench instead of starting everyday as well.

Now for game 6 they will head back to Indiana where the Pacers will look to stay alive. If you look at the way the Series has gone thus far, it would leave you to believe the Pacers would win this game. The Pacers clearly have the advantage inside with Roy Hibbert and David West. But the Heat seem to have an advantage everywhere else. Nobody can guard Lebron and Chris Bosh presents too many match-up problems with the Pacers defenders.

It would be interesting to see the Heat and Spurs go at it in the Finals. Eric Spoelstra would be totally out-coached by Popovich. There does seem to be an advantage for the Heat as far as personal goes, but the Spurs are very intelligent and shoot the ball extremely well.

It was a great series for the Orioles as Jim Johnson seems to be getting back in the groove, getting himself 2 saves and a couple of 3 up 3 down innings. Also Chris Davis continued his hot hitting and on his T-Shirt night sent 2 balls in the stands for on of the best come backs of the season. The Orioles lineup has been crushing the ball and as of right now it seems like hitting is contagious. I’ll gladly hold onto the Masn Cup and look forward to seeing how many Orioles get picked to the All-Star game.

Vince Bagli turned 86 this week. “The Dean” of Baltimore sportscasters is going strong. You can still find him on the golf course chasing par’s and enjoying time with friends.

I still remember that cold September night at Memorial Stadium when the new kid in town was warmly welcomed to Baltimore by “The Dean” and was told “let me know if there’s anything I can do for you.” You hear things like that a lot, but my hunch told me this guy actually meant it. My hunch was right, and it was the beginning of a friendship that’s lasted over 30 years.

Vince came into our homes and car radio’s before ESPN, the internet, Comcast Cable and MASN. He was Baltimore’s link to our games and our teams. From World Series, Super Bowls, to ordinary high school games, Vince was our trusted friend telling us about the fun and games in Baltimore. He did it with class, dignity and humility.

No ranting, finger pointing, or incessantly calling somebody an idiot. On a rare occasion a misguided jocular type might elicit a raised voice “You big dummy” from Mr. Bagli and we knew said player deserved it. He never made it about Vince, it was about the game and those who played it. Not sure a man of his humble virtues could get hired today.

You can still find Vince in the press box at Ravens home games and afternoon Orioles games. He always draws a crowd. Many of us, like Baltimore sports fans for all those years, love to hear from The Dean. Happy Birthday Vince!

Wednesday Art Donovan will celebrate his 89th birthday with family and friends. The recent years have been difficult on his body but his mind, sense of humor and courage are all intact. Artie is one of the great characters in Baltimore sports history. Mention his name around here and the first thing you’ll see is a smile. His story telling is legendary, kind of like the Globetrotters a lot of us know the act but it never gets old. An Artie story is just as funny the 10th time we hear it as it was the first time.

The larger than life character shouldn’t let us forget about Art Donovan the football player. He was the first Baltimore Colts player voted to The Pro Football Hall of Fame, elected in 1968. With Donovan at tackle and Gino Marchetti at end the Colts had one of the best 1-2 defensive line punches in the NFL. Art Donovan went to 5 straight Pro Bowl’s and was a leader on back to back Baltimore NFL championship teams.

The kid from the Bronx came from a famous sports family. His grand-father was a world middleweight boxing champion and his father, Art Donovan Sr., refereed some of the biggest fights in boxing history. Young Art was a man when he came to Baltimore in the ‘50’s. He had witnessed the horror of World War 2 serving four years as a Marine. He was part of the bloody battle of Iwo Jima and is fiercely proud of his country, the flag and those who serve it. Artie brought his smile to Baltimore over 60 years ago and it never left. Art, this Schlitz is for you. Happy Birthday!

Boog breaks down Chris Davis’s hot start and tells us why he’s hitting so well. Boog goes on to talk about how the game of baseball can be a very streaky game, like what we’ve been seeing with Ryan Flaherty.

Powell tells the guys how much fun it is to watch these guys play and just being able to watch players like Chris Davis and Manny Machado improve and develop in front of us.

With Chris Davis’s hot start with the bat, many people forget that he’s actually playing a very solid first base and Boog goes on to talk a little bit about that.

Rob talks to the guys about the struggles that the Nationals have faced so far, and calls their start to the season “shocking”. They were picked by many to be a World Series team, but so far are being out scored so far for the season. Speaking of shocks, Rob thought the Orioles would regress from the strong season they had last year and is shocked at the way they’ve started. The one down side to the Orioles hot start is the struggles that Jim Johnson has faced over the last few games. But Rob tells us that he thinks the “leash” on Jim is longer than many expect. Despite the numbers he had last year, he never was the best in the league, and with this years regress, but Rob feels he is still the same pitcher that was there last year and he’ll get back to that form. Neyer talks about last years triple crown winner, Miguel Cabrera, who is on track to be in a group with guys like Hank Aaron and Frank Thomas. With Miguel being one the best right now, we look to the future with Kevin Gausman on the hill tonight for the Orioles, and Rob tells the guys for a young pitcher he has incredible stuff, his average fastball is towards the top of the list. But Rob wants to see how long it will take for Kevin to adjust to the game at this level and if he can stay healthy. Now being 50 games into the season Rob Neyer tells us that his biggest surprise in the AL East is the Toronto Blue Jays being 9.5 games out of first place, this coming from a man who had the Orioles at the bottom of the division once again. But as the season gets better Neyer tells us that he expects the Blue Jays to play better ball, but not good enough. Rob also thinks the Yankees will start to fall back down to earth.

We find out if Nate really made the catch last week, as well as the keys to his success early on in the season.  The speedy outfielder also goes into his preparation for pitchers and his walk off home run in Yankees stadium.

Lastly, the guys discuss Kevin Gausman’s first major league start.

He had a chance to leave with a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning after striking out Bautista and getting Encarnacion to fly out to left field.  He gave up a single to Adam Lind and then with 2 outs J.C. Arencibia went yard.  He left trailing in the fifth, but I think he should be proud of his performance and there is plenty of things he can still work on as well.

Gausman’s delivery seems effortless.  It’s hard for batters to figure out whether he is throwing his change-up or his fastball.  He hit 99mph on the radar gun in Toronto and got himself out of a couple of really tough jams.  I’m really looking forward to seeing his next start against the Nationals.

Chris (Deputy) Davis is putting fear into all who stand 60 feet, 6 inches away with a trembling baseball in their hands. The season is a tad less than 30% old and right now Chris Davis is second to only Triple Crown Miguel Cabrera on my MVP list.

After a 4-hit game and a Yankee spanky Wednesday night the Deputy’s numbers are staggering. Davis leads the league with 14 homers, is second with 43 RBI’s and he’s hitting a smooth .329. The former 6th ranked draft pick of the Rangers always had potential to be a top power hitter and he reached that potential with 33 homers last season. Buck Showalter gave Davis a chance to play everyday and he delivered.

It’s becoming more apparent that Davis is more than a big Texan who can hit it a mile, he’s become a complete hitter. Pitch him away and he’ll take it to left field for a base hit, leave it over the plate and it could be headed for Eutaw street. Like most power hitters he’ll get his share of K’s but he’s got a good plan at the plate and doesn’t chase a lot of pitches out of the strike zone. The number show he’s one of the top sluggers in baseball but he’s also 2nd in on base percentage.

One of the big questions in Spring Training, could Davis cut it with the glove? Buck said he liked his guy at 1st base and so far so good. In 399 total chances Davis his just one error. The bat is one of the best in baseball and the glove is just fine. The Orioles have an MVP candidate and All-Star in Chris Davis who’s just reaching his prime at age 27.

He’s on pace to hit 49 homers and drive in 150 runs. God bless Andy MacPhail who should be arrested for getting Davis and Tommy Hunter in a 2011 trade with Texas for Koji Uehara. That’s Grand larceny, right Deputy?

Jason Hammel will take the mound for the O’s and he hasn’t looked like a number one pitcher, or even half as good as last year. In the month of May, Hammel has given up 17 Earned Runs in only 14.2 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .279 off of him during that stretch and he has allowed over 2 base-runners per inning.

Knowing your facing the Yankees and they tend to hit the long ball pretty well, doesn’t make you feel real good about tonight’s game. If Hammel can revert back to how he pitched in April, then the Orioles will be better off. But if he is putting batters on base, and getting into hitters counts, it could be a long night for our beloved birds.

I love when I hear video game references on The Fan.  There was a great one on Scott and Jeremy Friday.  This was around 3 p.m.

They were talking about  Chad Johnson receiving an arrest warrant for violating probation.  Johnson was arrested in August for allegedly headbutting his former wife Evelyn Lozada.  Jeremy read a text, “Just goes to show, nobody wins in a headbutt.”

Scott, who used to be a ring announcer, replied, “Well in wrestling sometimes they do.  Like Bobo Brazil, that was his thing like BOOM!”  Hilarity ensued.

“Do a little dance with a rose in my mouth,” Jeremy thought of his wrestling gimmick, “kind of like Don Flamingo [sic] from Mike Tyson’s Punch Out.”

This is who Jeremy is referring to if you don’t remember or never played Punch Out.  I can totally picture “Jerry Love” doing this:

He has got the gimmick, but I don’t know if Jeremy has Don Flamenco’s attributes.  According to his profile, Flamenco is 6’1″ weighing in at 152 lbs.  Flamenco is also more of a defensive minded fighter who baits his opponents into leaving an opening for an attack.  Jeremy is more of a guy who will just come out swinging.  Thing about Flamenco though, his punches are easily dodged leaving him open for an attack.  Kind of the opposite of the original plan if you ask me.

Remember kids, it’s all fun and games until it hits The Fan, or in this case, until Don Flamenco hits the canvas.
