The patriarchs of the NFL’s first families of quarterbacks and coaches are anything but interfering dads. In fact, Archie Manning and Jack Harbaugh are just as influenced by their successful sons as their boys are by them.
Jack and Jackie Harbaugh know where they’ll be after the Super Bowl.
I got to know Jack Harbaugh years ago when his son started in Baltimore. Now, the proudest dad in the NFL, and a former college coach, sits down to preview a “nerve racking ” Super Sunday in New Orleans.
Jackie Harbaugh will wear a neutral-colored outfit, still to be determined. Her daughter, Joani Crean, little sister to coaching brothers John and Jim Harbaugh, plans to sport all black at the Super Bowl to show no allegiances whatsoever.
These days, Jack Harbaugh stays away from game-planning chatter or strategy sessions with his Super Bowl-bound coaching sons. Baltimore’s John Harbaugh and little brother Jim of the San Francisco 49ers have been doing this long enough now to no longer need dad’s input.
The Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers have thrived this season because they are physical, relentless and combative. Just like their coaches.
