Being a last place team, the Bayhawks felt comfortable enough to shake things up with their roster, trying to gain any momentum into next season. Head coach Dave Cottle likes the potential gain of the deal.
Coach Cottle stated last week that he was encouraged by his team’s effort of late, but intangibles such as defensive output caused the Bayhawks to drop out of playoff contention.
“They have some really good offensive players and we just couldn’t stop them,” said Cottle.
“I think we’ve turned the corner on effort, we’ve turned the corner on enthusiasm, and this was the best game that we had execution wise all year.”
The Bayhawks have been more aggressively offensively of late, recording their fourth straight game of at least 50 shots on goal.
“Unfortunately, that was probably the best game in thirty years of coaching that I think I’ve ever seen another goalie play against us.” Cottle said, reflecting on the performance of Outlaws goalie Jesse Schwartzman, who had a season-high 28 saves. “We had some good opportunities, and their goalie stood up to them.”
One game out of a playoff spot, coach Cottle’s Bayhawks are coming off of a 16-15 win over the Boston Cannons as they prepare to head out to Colorado to face off against the Denver Outlaws, and talked about the performance of his players in the Boston game.
