Maryland’s public health agency says it has extended a contract to manage a state-owned hospital for the chronically ill in Hagerstown for six months.
State health officials say Meritus Health will manage Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.
Meritus Health is cutting 120 positions, including 60 current workers, and reducing hours for another 43 workers.
Hagerstown officials are considering a proposed redevelopment concept for the former Washington County Hospital properties in the city’s East End.
Hospital patients in Hagerstown are being shuttled to a new facility on the outskirts of the city.
