Gov. Martin O’Malley has declared a state of emergency in preparation for Hurricane Irene.
All along the East Coast, officials are calculating what they need to do if Irene becomes the first major hurricane to strike there in seven years. A hurricane watch was issued Thursday for much of the North Carolina coast.
Believe it or not, a cold front went through. It turned our winds around to the northwest, dropped our dewpoints/humidity significantly, but didn’t do much with the temperatures.
Rounds of rain and thunderstorms have been skirting across southern Maryland over to the Eastern Shore today. They are running along the stalled front.
Gorgeous sunshine gave way to some afternoon clouds and then a quick blast of showers and a few thunderstorms. That small batch of stormy weather came racing southeastward from PA, where it was much stronger.
Coastal residents, you’ve been warned: Hurricane season has begun.
