With help from this Baltimore fashionista, here's a sneak peak at the top 10 spring fashion trends for 2013:

  1. Peplum dresses – Although this trend started back in the fall, these '80s-style dresses are coming back again in full force this spring. Peplum dresses consist of a short overskirt or ruffle that is attached around the waistline of a dress or skirt. The right peplum can even make you look thinner, which is always a plus after the winter months.
  2. Floral prints – While these are always in style every spring, this year's floral approach is both bold and strong. Straying away from the dainty, vintage flower look, floral prints in 2013 will be in your face with bigger blossoms and more vibrant colors. Accessories will follow the same trend with headbands, belts and jewelry sporting not-to-be-missed flowers.
  3. Spring colors – In early spring, shades of coral and turquoise will dominate the shelves, however black and white (especially in stripes) are always a great choice to ease in the transition from winter to spring. As April and May set in, shoppers will start to see more of the bright yellows, greens and pinks taking the stage, which also signal the upcoming transition to the warmer colors of summer.
  4. Mirror image prints – This butterfly effect or mirror image design is basically a print that has been duplicated or reversed onto another side, so that the print is essentially reflected over an invisible line. Mirror image prints will be seen across a variety of apparel this spring, from shirts and pants to dresses and skirts.
  5. Lace – Although typically thought of as very feminine and dressy accent, this spring lace takes on a new dimension as it graces apparel in metallic colors to add flare or as cotton eyelet for a more casual touch.
  6. Asymmetry – Tops, dresses and skirts will be featuring a more asymmetric look with a short in the front and long in the back look, or short on one side and long on the other – creating enticing angles no matter which direction you're looking from. In past seasons this style was used more to the effect of one-shoulder sleeves, which will also continue this spring.
  7. Neckline embellishments – Added flare for added glare embellishments around the neckline are making a comeback this spring and can be seen on shirts, blouses and dresses. Light spring scarves with bead or jewel embellishments may also be added to any attire to create a similar look and feel.
  8. Cutouts – Located at the side or waist, cutout dresses may be filled with a mesh fabric for a slight skin show-through or none at all, leaving the sides, back and/or stomach bare. This sexy cutout trend can be dramatic and expose much of the mid-section, or shoppers may opt for strappy styles that are less revealing.
  9. Maxi dresses – These full-length or ankle-length dresses that are form fitting up top and loose flowing at the bottom make a return this spring in robust floral prints and an assortment of comfortable fabrics. However there will not be as many of this style dress as seen in previous seasons.
  10. Cigarette pants – Slim-fitting pants and skinny jeans continue their popularity into the spring but will be spiced up with bold floral prints that will make any head turn.
