2014 Baltimore Fall Theater Preview

The fall season presents opportunities for theater goers to get out and experience something new. In the Baltimore area, there exists a variety of shows to pique one's interests and satisfy the thirst for cultural enrichment. Here are some of the offerings to be found in and around the area.

Dates: Sept. 9-14, 2014

"Once" is the story of a street musician who has dreams of his own, but is unable to achieve them until he meets a beautiful young lady. As their relationship blossoms, his music takes a turn for the better. This musical won eight Tony Awards in 2012. The story, told through the music, is one with which anyone can identify as they pursue their own goals.

"I Love Lucy Live On Stage"

"I Love Lucy Live On Stage" is based upon the well-known and loved 1950s television show. It presents the lovable characters of Lucy, Ricky, Ethel and Fred as they prepare for the filming of the series. The interactive show, complete with music, gives audience members an idea of what could have possibly been happening during the filming of the program as it highlights the capers of the foursome. This is the first time the show is presented live and on stage.

"Amadeus"

"Amadeus" takes place in 18th century Vienna and tells the story of what happens when a young prodigy named Mozart infuses his musical into a small town, dominated by another musician, Salieri. The musician, after hearing Mozart's talent and filled with his own insecurities, threatens revenge. According to the website, this is a "new revival of the Tony Award-winning drama."

"The Understudy"

Dates: Now through Sept. 28, 2014

"The Understudy" is a comedy that centers around the tensions created by the understudy who plays second fiddle in the play. He is bitter about his role in the play and feels he can do it better than the lead actor. "The Understudy" has been given rave reviews. This is the premiere performance for the Baltimore/DC area.

Directed by Derrell Lawrence, this play takes the audience through the twists and turns of relationships as the question is explored. The play is sure to make the audience members think twice. Find out who your friends really are.
