4 Best Fashion Moments Of 2013

A year in fashion has its highs, lows, knockouts and blunders and 2013 was no exception. As always, the red carpet, award shows, various fashion weeks around the globe and a variety of other events showcased the best and worst that fashion had to offer this year. Here we spotlight some of fashion’s best moments from 2013.

Baz Luhrmann’s films always have a style all their own and the release of his "The Great Gatsby" this spring inspired many to play around with fashions from the Jazz Age. Flapper-style dresses, cloche hats, decorative headbands and many other pieces influenced by the time period were prevalent in retail locations, ranging from high-end designer boutiques to run-of-the-mill department stores. Blinged out, Art Deco themed jewelry hit the scene since the musically-charged, cinematic retelling of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic put a huge emphasis on the glitz and glamour of the 1920s. The perfect look for New Year’s Eve celebrations will embrace the Roaring Twenties as fashionistas prepare to ring in 2014.

The Pixie Returns

Since hitting the scene with her Academy Award nomination for "Winter’s Bone" in 2011, Jennifer Lawrence has been making fashion headlines, never failing to wow us. In November when "The Hunger Games" star chopped off her hair to sport a pixie cut, other celebrities and many fans followed suit. Jennifer Aniston, Pamela Anderson and Kristin Chenoweth have all sheered their long locks for the easy, breezy, Twiggy-inspired short 'do. We wonder how the final movie in "The Hunger Games" series will fare without Katniss wearing her hair plaited, as is characteristic of the Mockingjay.

Not Your Grandma’s Florals

We’re not talking about the horrible flower patterns that cover your great aunt’s couch. Celebrities ranging from Lucy Liu at the 2013 Golden Globes to Adele at the 2013 Grammys tried fresh, updated versions of floral patterns in new silhouettes and shapes. No doubt we’ll see these two ladies, among many others, top 2013 best dressed lists with their incredible floral formal wear. For his first ready-to-wear line for Christian Dior, Raf Simons brought florals to New York Fashion Week’s runway and critics and fashion bloggers could not stop singing the praises of the collection.

Grungy and Fabulous

The early 1990s are a distant memory for most, making it the time to revive trends from that period. Flannel, torn tights and Doc Martens signify the restoration of the grunge look in 2013 fashion trends. While some celebrities, such as Ke$sha, have attempted the grunge style only to look like a bad Courtney Love Halloween costume, iconic labels such as Yves Saint Laurent and Versace walked beautiful grunge-inspired looks down the runway. For the perfect look for the cold winter months, layer on cozy flannels, big sweaters and fleece tights to nail this look on the head.

Not too much longer until 2014 begins and a whole new year of fashion mesmerizes us with its daring statements, understated elegance and horribly funny gaffes. We can imagine only the great heights (and embarrassing pits) that fashion will rise to in the coming year.
