Art Lover's Walking Tour Of Baltimore

Baltimore is the center of a newly-formed area called the Station North Arts District. The area showcases the performing, visual and literary arts. It is unique in that there is no other area like it. The Station North Arts District is home to some of the best performances. Here is a listing of some of the places art lovers can visit and enjoy in this area of the city.

Station North Arts Cafe (SNAC) is a quaint little establishment in Baltimore, located in the newly formed and emerging Station North Arts District. The cafe is open Monday through Saturday until 6:00 p.m. Within the cafe, however, houses an art gallery as well. Its motto is "Where food, music, art and shopping come together." According to gallery manager Portia Smith, the exhibits change monthly and there is usually a theme along with a solo or group showings. She said they look for new local artists and want the public to know that original art is affordable. According to Smith, every show has its own energy. She said she wants to encourage people to support local artists. "Bread and water are not enough, I feel richer when I see extraordinary talent and the medium used," says Smith.

Located in the Station North Arts District, this venue provides space for visual and performing artists. According to the website, this collective is "dedicated to promoting independent arts to all mediums in Baltimore City." There is an art gallery as well as opportunities for creative expression.

This is a great place to enjoy art and music. You can play games, enjoy poetry, listen to a band or just enjoy a good brew. Depending upon the night you attend, there is something nice happening to help you unwind from a long day's work. Some features are presented at cost, but the fee is nominal.

Each wing of this museum houses something different and has something interesting in store for art lovers. There are portraits of landscapes, people and wildlife, which date back to the early eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. There are also contemporary exhibits, which change over time but demonstrate the stretch of the individual artists' imagination.

The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) is located in close proximity to the up and coming Baltimore Cultural Arts District. On a walk through the neighborhood, one can see the various sculptures and murals that beautify the landscapes and neighborhoods of the city. There is also various architectural styles represented in the structure of the buildings which make up the college. The school features classes in various aspects of art, so no matter what your preference in genre or media, there is bound to be something for you at MICA.
