Best Mountain Biking Spots Near Baltimore

Maryland has some of the best mountain biking trails on the East Coast, and trail biking combines beautiful scenery and endurance. Here are some of the best trails in the Baltimore area.
Patapsco Valley State Park

Patapsco Valley State Park in Ellicott City extends along 32 miles of the Patapsco River and is 16,043 acres with eight developed recreational areas. There are also 170 miles of biking trails. Between its rocky and rooty characteristics, the park provides a challenging  terrain, perfect for advanced riders.

Loch Raven ReservoirLocated near Towson and Baltimore, the Loch Raven Reservoir is a fun ride. This multi-use park provides a good amount of space for cyclists. This reservoir provides a sanctioned ride along Merrimans Road, which goes into Jarretsville Pike -- a 5-mile  ride. With hills, dirt and four water crossings, this is a perfect track for the intermediate bike rider!

Rosaryville State ParkRosaryville State Park has 982 acres for various amounts of activities. This  park and is located around the historic Mount Airy Mansion. This park provides great ground for beginners as well as advanced riders. For the advanced riders there will be a bunch of what some call "skinnies" and "jumps" before  the trail takes you back to the perimeter loop. Rosaryville also provides ample space for hikers and equestrians.
Schaeffer FarmsSchaeffer Farms in Prince George's County provides a great trail system for mountain bikes! The terrain is described as rolling with roots. This is a very busy track on the weekends due to its popularity and difficulty. This is a mix and match course which provides a good amount of  short cuts. This farm was originally made as an alternative to the original loops at Seneca Creek State Park, but has grown into its own course.

Rockburn Skills ParkRockburn Park consists of 450 acres and is located in Elkridge. The Howard County Recreation and Parks and the international Mountain Biking Association created a private -public skills partnership. This multi-use track provides a good number of activities for both mountain bikers and trail runners. There's a pump track and three downhill lines -- one for beginners, intermediate, and one for the advanced  bike riders.
