Best BLTs In Baltimore

The Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato is an old classic that one can easily whip up at home. Consequently, you rarely think of going out to a nice restaurant or deli and ordering an old fashioned BLT. Fact is, however, that a skilled eatery can take even this simple sandwich and class it up to the next level.

If you are a fan of bacon and what it can do between two pieces of bread, don't deny yourself the joy of this sandwich at one of these locations.

Frank and Nic's has a classy feel that extends from their patio dining right up to their marble-topped bar, festooned with every kind of wine in which a cultivated pallet might care to indulge. When one enters a restaurant that takes reservations, hosts private parties and holds trivia nights every Tuesday, it might be a bit surprising to find a BLT on the menu, but there is an argument to be made for ordering this item above all others. The BLT is one of the few items on their sandwich menu of which Frank and Nic's were proud enough to actually feature a picture. They used fried red tomato on the sandwich, thick applewood bacon and a creamy avocado/mayo mix sure to make your taste buds water. Not enough for you? You can add turkey to the sandwich for a few bucks extra.

One of the most celebrated delis in Baltimore, The Beef Brothers has grown so successful that they are now taking online orders for pickup or delivery. High on their sandwich menu and low in cost is their much-loved BLT. Like any deli, you get to choose your bread; and come prepared, because there's plenty to choose from. Beef Brothers then gives you the chance to spice it up your way by choosing other ingredients to throw in, such as spicy horseradish sauce, extra bacon, cheese, raw onions, hot peppers, and more. Come back as often as you like and never eat the same BLT twice thanks to their wide variety of bread and topping choices.

Peter's Inn

Peter's Inn is a farm-to-table, locally owned and operated restaurant with an ever-changing menu. Sadly, this means that you have to catch the BLT when it's available, but it's definitely well worth the wait. A sandwich so good, City Paper voted it Best BLT in Baltimore, the BLT served by Peter's Inn takes fresh, ripe, sweet, locally grown tomatoes, slaps them together on bakery baguettes along with Hellman's Mayonnaise, and smokehouse bacon. Here's a hint: the best place and time to get this sandwich is at the Peter's Inn stand at the Fell's Point Farmer's Market in August. Otherwise, just keep checking the weekly menu on their website.

Ale Mary's

Baltimore, MD 21231

As the name might suggest, Ale Mary's is as much tavern as it is restaurant. This does not mean that it skimps on either end, which should be evident when you look at their particular entry for "best BLT." Ale Mary's has decided to spruce up the ingredients by adding salmon to the mix. You can get your fresh salmon either grilled or blackened with peppered bacon, lettuce, tomato, and a lemon horseradish aioli. It's a combination which works together better than your brain could ever imagine and as well as your taste buds could ever handle.

Charmington's
2601 N. Howard St.
Baltimore, MD 21218
(410) 235-5004

A simple coffee shop with an affordable menu, the flavor that Charmington's packs into their BLT is anything but simple, and definitely a deal at the price. Charmington's has discovered that toasted, wholesome white bread is the best bread to accent while not edging out the flavor of the bacon. The bacon they choose is the mouth-watering Applegate Farm's variety. Then they slap on some lettuce and tomato, slather it with garlic aioli and serve the whole thing up with a side of chips and fruit. Grab it to go, and be singing its praises for the rest of the day.
