During the warm months of the year, and even the colder ones, we crave a sweet, frozen treat, but there is no better time to give into this craving than during July, National Ice Cream Month. There are many places around the Baltimore area that offer ice cream from the classic flavors to more decadent flavors. Check out one of these places to get some of the best ice cream in Baltimore.

Opie's is located on Edmondson Avenue in Catonsville. The menu here offers a variety of choices from soft serve ice cream and snowballs to snowcream and ice cream cookies.  The soft serve ice cream comes in a variety of sizes with a cup or cone – you can even upgrade to a waffle, pretzel or gluten free cone. Now you may be wondering what snowcream is – it is a snowball with soft serve ice cream in the middle and on top. Uncle Wiggly's has three locations, but the one on York Road serves over 50 flavors from Taharka Bros and Edy's, along with some killer deli sandwiches, brownies and chocolate chip cookies. Ice cream flavors range from toasted coconut and butter pecan to mango sorbet and cookies and cream.

The Prigel Family Creamery is located outside the Beltway and, while the ice cream is best enjoyed at their retail location, it can also be found all over the city (check the website for locations). The creamery gets its milk from Bellevale Farm and then churns it into decadent and delicious ice cream.  You can enjoy the a Friday night out at the Friday Night Music Night from 7 – 9 p.m. now through September 11. Pack a picnic and enjoy the music.

Taharka Brothers is a Baltimore-based, small batch producer of ice cream and sorbets that will appease the lover of classic flavors ( chocolate, strawberry, vanilla) to the more adventurous cravings (Gravel Road, Olive Oil & Sea Salt, Vanilla Bourbon, Key Lime Pie, and more).  Taharka Brothers has no retail shop, but you can find its ice cream at restaurants, scoop shops and universities.  Some local scoop shops that carry the ice cream include Best of Luck, Uncle Wigley's Dessert Fantasies.  Some restaurants that serve the ice cream include  Abbey Burger Bistro, B Bistor, Café Hon, Donna's, Le Garge and more (see full list on the website).
