Best Mussels In Baltimore

Mussels, when served in seafood stew, a garlic broth with crunchy bread for dipping or in a pasta dish, are always a crowd pleaser. Not only are mussels tasty, but they have a health benefit with their good dose of minerals and vitamins. Baltimore is not just a "crab city." It is also know for how it prepares other seafood like mussels. Check out these five restaurants for some great mussel dishes.

Bertha's Mussels is located in Fell's Point and has been around since 1972. Most places offer you one to two ways to order your mussels, but Bertha's offers you a wide variety of ways each with Italian bread to soak up that leftover sauce. You can pick either one sauce or assorted sauces and even order extra sauces. You can pick from traditional sauces like plain butter or garlic butter or more inventive like spinach, tarragon and garlic butter or Lancaster creamy mustard sauce. Make sure you ask for the mussel specials too!

Le Garage Beer Bar & Frites is located in Hampden and offers patrons French cuisine and frites with creative dipping sauces. The Mussels & Frites entrée is served with a ginger miso broth, shallots and herbs. You can also pair your mussels with one of the 14 draft beers ranging from Belgian, French and local craft breweries. If you want something more than the broth to dip your frites in, try one of the creative sauce like kimchi ketchup, black truffle aioli or gochujang aioli.

Conrad's Seafood Restaurant in Perry Hall offers PEI Mussels on the starter menu served with one of two choices: a spicy tomato or Guinness andouille sausage and both are served with a toasted baguette. For a main course, try the pasta dish Fruitti Di Mare which is served with PEI mussels, littleneck clams, gulf shrimp, calamari, a tomato broth and bucatini pasta, or the Rockfish Cioppino with golf shrimp, littleneck clams, PEI mussels and a tomato seafood broth. Stop by on Mondays for the Steamer Night where you can get 1 pound of steamed mussels, a 1/4 pound of extra large shrimp, 1 dozen steamed clams, corn, carrots and onions.

Nick's Fish House offers great water views with its waterfront dining and indoor and outdoor seating available year round. The raw and steamed bar offers chipotle lime sautéed mussels, one pound of pan steamed mussels mariner served with in a white wine, garlic butter broth and croutons or mix it up with the combination of half pound mussels and half dozen claims served in a white wine, garlic and butter broth. If you are looking for something heartier, try the jambalaya with a Creole sauce, crayfish, shrimp, chicken, Andouille sausage and mussels. For the entire seafood experience, try either the Baltimore Steamer Pot, New England Clam Bake or the Shellfish Supreme which all have mussels and other delights served in a pot together.

Mo's Seafood has more than one location: Towson, Inner Harbor, Little Italy, Glen Burnie, Eastern Avenue and White Marsh. To start off, try the steamed mussel appetizer that is served with either a garlic or marinara sauce. If you are craving pasta dish, try the seafood marinara with shrimp, scallops and mussels that is served over linguini.
