After a long winter, the highly anticipated warmth of spring is upon us. Seen as a time of growth, renewal and new life, spring is also a time to partake in some of the earth's natural beauty. Flowers aren't the only beauty to admire at this exquisite Tudor style mansion and estate. Located on 45 acres in Maryland's Greenspring Valley, the Gramercy Mansion features extensive woodland trails, an organic farm and of course, the classic and serene flower gardens. Originally built in 1863, the immaculate Cylburn Mansion features a variety of gardens, including a butterfly garden, a rose garden and a vegetable garden; all of which are available for viewing. The award-winning Brookside Gardens consists of 50 acres of beauty located within Wheaton Regional Park. The aquatic, azalea, butterfly, rose and Japanese-style gardens are just a mere few of what Brookside has to offer. There is also a children's garden and two conservatories for enjoyment all year around. Best of all, admission is free!  Unfortunately, bringing your dog along isn't an option as no pets are allowed. While presenting the beauty and uniqueness of pristine gardens and rare trees, Sherwood Gardens has just what floral lovers need. Annually, 80,000 tulip bulbs are planted, along with other spring flowering bulbs, such as flowering cherries, wisteria, dogwoods and magnolias. You will also enjoy the colorful azaleas and old English boxwoods. On a historical note, some of these plants are said to date back as far as the 18th century and were collected from gardens of colonial estates in southern Maryland.
