Everyone has their local pubs where they gather with friends for an after work tipple and a few words of conversation. Time to give the local a rest, meet new people and explore some of the city's best happy hours that are hidden in plain sight.

This hipster sports bar is quasi-famous for it's ½ price pizza happy hour on Tuesdays. Turps has the unique honor of being the only true sports bar in Mt. Vernon. The crowd ranges from young law students, young art students and older Mt. Vernonites.

Specials: 7 days a week: $2.50 all drafts, $8 buckets of Boh, ½ price nachos.

Usually, one would avoid the "hotel bar" scene. Not so at Georges. Located on the ground floor of the Wyndham Peabody Courts Baltimore Hotel, this small bar is smack in front of the Washington Monument and very popular with the stylish Mt. Vernonites, who flock here for the 2-for-1 drink specials. This includes anything from the bar's excellent beer selection to their homemade red and white sangria.

Specials: 7 days a week: Two for one bottled beer (30 to choose from); two for one house wine; two for one rail drinks and select appetizers for $5.

The Red Maple Lounge, located in the city's gay district, has tweaked its image and upped it's game in the class department by starting a weekly "grown up" happy hour in its beautiful, candle-lit zen garden at the back of the restaurant. You can look up at the stars at this new bar in the garden/courtyard. With live lounge and soul music, this is the perfect place to come and unwind during the bleak midweek.

Specials: Every Thursday enjoy $4 Tapas (or small plates) & 2 for 1 on all drinks from 5-7 p.m.

$2.50 Natty Boh, $3 Yuengling and $5 Pomaritas til 9:30 p.m.

They had us at the cheesesteaks. No Idea is a working man's bar with a modern vibe on the outer edge of Federal Hill. The cheesesteaks come with a variety of toppings and you can even make a chicken cheesesteak (get it with buffalo sauce. Trust me.) That goes down well with the bar's other happy hour specials.

Specials: Tuesday night Trivia Night - starting at 8:30 p.m.; $2.50 Miller Lite bottles; $4 Firefly Sweet Tea Drinks; $3 Tuaca shots and $5 Cheesesteaks from 5-10 p.m.

This little, traditional old-school style pub is literally tucked away in Canton. Locals love the authentic pressed tin ceilings and wood floors, but if you're a beer fan, this might be the best happy hour in the city. With the $5 special, you can taste some for the most unique beers the city has to offer. From small batch to hand-pulled, this beer bar covers it all. 

Specials: 3 - 7 p.m. - $5 for 3 10oz drafts, $.75 off beers and cocktails
