What is swing dancing? Developed during the 1920s to 1950s, swing dancing features a group of dances in the swing style of jazz music. The most well-known of swing dances is the Lindy Hop, a mix of jazz, tap, breakaway and the Charleston. Developed in white and African American communities alike, swing dancing encompasses the Balboa, the Shag, the West Coast Swing and the Boogie Woogie. Swing dancing is the foundation for many dancing styles including disco, country line dancing and more. Open seven days a week, The Promenade DanceSport Facility holds "3 Open-to-the-Public Social Dances every Weekend." In addition to weekly social dances, customers can take group or private dance lessons every weeknight. Each Friday Night Dance Party begins with a free drop-in lesson from 7:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. The actual Dance Party runs from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
