Though the name of Johns Hopkins is known worldwide more for health and medical contributions, the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University touches on healing the soul with music. Hosting roughly 100 concerts featuring classical, jazz and contemporary music each year, the Peabody Institute offers many free and low-cost performances, featuring both professional and student entertainment. The Peabody Opera Theatre and Peabody Symphony Orchestra present the music of Cendrillon (or Cinderella). Before each show, you can talk with stage director Jennifer Blades, who is also a singer and performer herself. Later in the week, enjoy the rhythm of Jazz Combo Night at the Centre Street Performance Studio on November 19 at 7:30 p.m. Enjoy Paul Bollenback's Guitar Ensemble and Alex Norris' Classic Modern Jazz ensemble for only $5.

Listen to classical holiday favorites from a full chorus and orchestra in Christmas with Choral Arts. If you'd like to sing your heart out, head to Gougher College's Kraushaar Auditorium -- at 1021 Dulaney Valley Road in Towson -- when Hall visits later in the season on December 19 at 7:30 p.m. Here, he'll lead the performance of Sing-Along Messiah, including pieces from George Frederic Handel's "Messiah" such as "Hallelujah," "Glory to God" and "Amen." With everyone singing along, you can be sure the room will transform into an enchanting and uplifting expression of the holiday spirit.
