So you're headed back to school and you probably have this grand idea that this is the year you're going to get fit… good luck with that.  But if you're really going to commit to this goal, one last blow out wouldn't hurt, right?  There is no place like a state fair to sample the best in fried cuisine and on the East Coast the century old Maryland State Fair is the place to be, to consume all the glorious calories you can. But hurry… this is the last weekend!

Now until September 1st you only have to pay $3-$8 for some down home fun like pig racing and chainsaw carving. You can pet some farm animals, feel like a kid again on the roller-coaster, and yes, eat all the fried foods you want (I have heard that there are a few healthy options as well if you're into that kind of thing).

Some of the top choices this year include the Deep-fried Berger cookies, which originate from Baltimore's DeBaufre Bakery, and consist of cookies dipped in funnel cake batter and deep-fried. For the All American taste, grab the giant corn fritters, made from locally grown, fresh corn, cut into small chunks, dipped in batter and deep-fried.  Or for the three of you who want a real health option, try the Yogurt Peach Sundae, which includes nonfat soft-serve fro-yo, topped with locally grown peaches and whipped cream (they tried to fry this but it didn't work out).

Then, starting at 10am, you can hit up the Midway, to burn off your calories with some competitive gaming or dance them off by rocking out with superstars like Phil Vassar with Lindsey Highlander or local artists like The Crawdaddies and Awaken.

After a weekend at the fair you will be ready to roll into school after Labor Day, having loaded up on the most delicious local treats around!
