Parents Hid 5 Children From School, Doctors

YORK, Pa. (WJZ) A stunning discovery just across the state line in York, Pennsylvania--five children living in secret.

Adam May reports authorities say the children's parents hid them from the doctors, schools and neighbors.

A boarded-up house in York, Pennsylvania was home to three girls and two boys between the ages of 2 and 13 who were forced to live in a single bedroom without utilities. Neighbors thought the home was vacant until social workers came investigating.

"That's horrible to think that they were living in there with no water, no heat, no electric," said Sophia Velez, neighbor: "It's kind of terrible."

Authorities say the presumed parents Louann Bowers and Sinhue Johnson kept their children out of school and away from doctors. Many have untreated medical conditions and mental health issues. An anonymous tipster led to a court order to remove the children.

"If you're aware of a situation where you feel a child is at risk or children are at risk we encourage you to give us as much information as you can," said Deb Chronister, Office of Children, Youth and Families.

The mother has reportedly studied 70 religions, and her attorney claims she acted for religious reasons.

The children are currently in foster homes. Their parents are due in court Friday.
