Accident Shuts Eastbound I-70 Near Mount Airy, Md.

MOUNT AIRY, Md. (AP) -- The State Highway Administration says an accident has closed eastbound Interstate 70 near Mount Airy.

Doug Alexander, a spokesman for the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company, tells WFMD-AM that the accident early Tuesday morning involved a tractor-trailer carrying chemicals. Alexander says the tractor-trailer jackknifed and hazmat crews have responded to the scene.

Maryland State Police say the truck was carrying refrigerants, wood sealant and embalming fluid. It was not immediately known how long the roadway would be closed.

Alexander says the driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
