Metro In Talks With Choice For New General Manager
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro board members say they hope to announce the appointment of a new general manager later this month.
The transit agency is currently negotiating a contract with its top choice for the job. One of the top three candidates is Interim General Manager Richard Sarles. Board members did not name the other candidates. They say they hope to make an announcement on Jan. 27.
Sarles, the former chief of New Jersey Transit, joined the agency in March at a salary of $25,000 a month. He has also worked for Amtrak and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Former General Manager John Catoe Jr. resigned in April after a string of accidents, including a crash that killed nine people.
