Effort To Disincorporate Snow Hill On Hold

SNOW HILL, Md. (AP) -- A push by a Snow Hill businessman to disincorporate the Lower Eastern Shore town is on hold.

Gary Weber says he is now working with Mayor Stephen Mathews to revitalize the community.

Weber says he wants to help find ways for Snow Hill residents to save tax dollars without reducing services and without disincorporating.

Weber said in December that he was launching a petition drive to discorporate the town, which is the seat of Worcester County and the county's oldest incorporated town. He said replacing town government with county government would provide lower taxes and better services to residents. Mathews had pledged to fight the
disincorporation effort.

Mathews has met with Weber to discuss the issue and says he wants to "turn it into a win-win for the citizens and the town."
