Police: No Gunshot Residue On Accused Cop Killer
GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) -- A police firearms expert says he found no gunshot residue on a shirt worn by a Maryland man accused of fatally shooting a Delaware police officer.
Under cross-examination Wednesday, Carl Rone also testified that he did not test clothing worn by two other men who were with defendant Derrick Powell when Georgetown patrolman Chad Spicer was gunned down in September 2009.
Powell, from Cumberland, Md., is charged with first-degree murder in Spicer's death and could face the death penalty if convicted.
Luis Flores, who was riding with Powell, 23, in the car from which the fatal shot was fired, was expected to testify Wednesday afternoon. Defense attorneys suggest Flores was the man who actually pulled the trigger.
