Md. Event Celebrates Ruth Birthday

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Amateur sluggers will be able to hold a bat Babe Ruth used during a charity event at a Baltimore hospital.

The Babe Ruth Birthplace Foundation and Mercy Medical Center are partnering on the event Sunday, the day Ruth was born in 1895. The bat is normally kept in the museum's private archives, but on Ruth's birthday on Sunday visitors can hold the bat at the hospital and have their picture taken with it for $10. Ruth used the bat during the 1927 season when he set the single-season home run record.

The proceeds from the event will benefit Mercy Medical Center's intensive care unit.
