iPhone Set For Sale At Verizon Wireless

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--After years of rumors and waiting, the iPhone finally goes on sale at Verizon on Thursday. Many customers placed pre-orders online.

Mary Bubala reports that area stores are bracing for a busy day.

Verizon Wireless stores across the nation are opening their doors at 7 a.m. Thursday. They anticipate their customers--who've spent the past four years with their faces pressed up against the glass of AT&T wondering when they could finally join the iPhone revolution – will come in droves.

Are Verizon's customers excited?

"Yeah, I am," said Mary Kiett, Verizon Wireless customer. "I like new technology and new gadgets."

Verizon offered the iPhone online to existing customers on Feb. 3 and in the first two hours alone sold more phones than any first-day launch in the company's history.

But there are some who couldn't wait for Verizon and Apple to come together, so they went elsewhere.

"I've been waiting for a long time," said Galina Pankovcin. "I've been with Verizon since I was 18-years-old, so it's nice to finally keep it in network."

"I've been an AT&T member and I know with Verizon, they're more expensive and I'm not a fan of the service," said her friend.

Verizon thinks it will have lots of fans Thursday, and they are expecting lines to form before the 7 a.m. opening. Managers will be passing out hand warmers and hats to help customers keep warm.
