Police ID Man Shot At Silver Spring Mall By Officer
SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County Police have identified a homeless man shot and killed by an officer outside a Silver Spring mall.
Police say Emmanuel Okutuga, 26, was shot and killed Saturday afternoon by Officer Christopher Jordan.
Police say the officer fired twice, striking Okutuga both times, after the man refused to put down a sharp object he was brandishing outside the City Place Mall on Colesville Road.
The homeless man was pronounced dead at the scene, and police say Jordan has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation of the shooting.
