ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland Treasurer Nancy Kopp has been re-elected by the Maryland General Assembly.

Kopp, a Democrat who has been treasurer since 2002, was chosen by lawmakers on Thursday over Republican William Campbell.

The Democrat-controlled General Assembly chose Kopp during a joint session.

The treasurer is the state’s chief representative in working with financial rating agencies and investment banking firms. The treasurer also has one of three seats on the Board of Public Works, along with the governor and the comptroller.
