GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WJZ)—Police arrested a suspect accused of assaulting a 61-year-old woman in the parking lot of Marley Station Mall in Glen Burnie.

Police say the victim is recovering in critical but stable condition. They say it was tips from the public that led them to the man who’s responsible.

Anne Arundel County Police say André Ennis, 40, is the man who attacked a 61-year-old woman in the Macy’s parking lot of Marley Station Mall in Glen Burnie, beating and robbing her Wednesday evening.

“Officers on scene located a 61-year-old female suffering a head injury,” said Justin Mulcahy, Anne Arundel County Police.

“It just doesn’t make sense. This stuff doesn’t happen here,” said Jennifer Flint, Glen Burnie.

Police say the victim’s purse and car were missing from the scene, but the vehicle was later found at Sassafras Street and Pennington Avenue in Baltimore.

“That is just terrible. It just seems like they’ll get anybody. It is scary,” Christina Holthaus, Glen Burnie.

Court records show Ennis has a lengthy criminal history. H e pleaded guilty to armed robbery in 2002, resulting in a 10-year prison sentence. He is also wanted in Baltimore for beating and robbing a man back in February.

Investigators say they found Ennis just before 11 a.m. Friday. They arrested him at a Brooklyn Park Motel along Ritchie Highway without incident.

“That’s a big relief,” said Cookie Welch, Glen Burnie. “I hope he gets the help he needs.”

Though locals are glad to hear police have a suspect in custody, many are concerned about potential copycats.

“It’s too close to home,” said Tom Carey, Glen Burnie. “Crime around here is getting pretty bad.”

In a statement, the Marley Station management says security is a priority and that shoppers and mall employees can ask for escorts to the parking lot.

Police will formally charge Ennis with robbery, assault and theft.

They are also investigating whether Ennis is linked to other similar crimes in the area.

Better houses don’t make better people. One person is no better then the other, black or white. Oh and just for the info. if you read that the police are searching for a suspect in the abduction in the city, he is HISPANIC, and probably another illegal. And as far as building more prisons to put Americans to work, you are only making more jobs for the illegals! Even though I have a home, I don’t consider myself any better then the homeless. We all bleed the same.

I don’t care, white, black, yelow green, I always clutch my bag when someone else gets into an empty elevator with me. Its not a black/white issue. Baltimore is ranked third highest in the nation for murder and violent crimes. I am always causious!

This article from Wikipedia breaks it down using national data.

Me, Thanks for the information. Wow, 409 per 100k whites incarcerated vs almost 2,500 the same number for blacks. There you have folks. Niggas are bad for your health. David Jackson, go wrestle with a hog you coon slime ball cotton picking gin drinking popeye chicken eating porch monkey!

“The racial composition of the US prison and jail population as of 2008 was 60.21% (African American (non-Hispanic), 20.29% Hispanic, 13.44% White American (non-Hispanic) , and 6.06% Other (American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander American, and Multiracial American).[”

Sigh it’s even worse than I thought. Blacks only make up 12% of the population but the vast majority of prisoners. The white prison population is down right miniscule.

What I took from the article was we could all use a clean up clean out day. Crime varies from the locations we live in and I would say in any area dominated by one race over another statisically the larger race would commit more crime. When I worked a predominately white area I rarely arrested someone who was black. This worked the other way when I worked a predominately black area. We see what we want to see and our fears are born from where we live and so are our prejudices. This isn’t a judgement. If I was raped or shot by a person of a different race I would probably be fearful myself. That is how we survive to learn something by what happened to us. What happened to the woman is disgsting and what we should all be angry about is why this particular man was walking amongst us given his violent background.
